\u2022 Het doel van een dorstlesser is het zweetverlies compenseren en energie aanbrengen zodat de atleet op een hoog niveau kan blijven presteren.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Preventie van dehydratatie is essentieel tijdens uithoudingscompetities want reeds vanaf een vochtverlies van 2% van het lichaamsgewicht is de inspanningscapaciteit sterk verminderd. Tijdens 1 uur lichaamsbeweging verliest de gemiddelde sporter ongeveer 500 ml tot 1 liter vocht.In warme, vochtige omstandigheden kan dat tot het dubbele bedragen. Tracht bij lange inspanningen 125 \u00e0 250 ml per kwartier te drinken.Zo\u2019n drinkschema oefen je best op training.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Een goede dorstlesser bevat ook elektrolyten zoals Natrium, Kalium, Magnesium en Chloor, want hierdoor wordt het vocht sneller in het bloed opgenomen dan bij gewoon water en blijft het bloedvolume gehandhaafd.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Een goede dorstlesser bevat tussen de 60 \u00e0 80 gr koolhydraten per liter. Deze koolhydraten moeten ervoor zorgen dat de glycogeenreserves in de spieren zoveel mogelijk gespaard worden en dat de bloedglucosespiegel op peil blijft. Ons lichaam kan maximaal 60 gr exogene suikers per uur verbruiken. In een recent onderzoek toont Prof. Dr. Asker Jeukendrup aan, dat je best een \u201ccombinatie\u201d van suikers gebruikt om het maximum aan energie via koolhydraten vrij te maken.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Verder heeft een dorstlesser best een neutrale zuurtegraad. De meeste dorstlessers zijn zuur door toevoeging van citroenzuur of andere organische zuren, die toegevoegd worden om de smaak te verbeteren en om de houdbaarheid te verhogen. Een verhoogde zuurtegraad remt echter de maaglediging, kan maag- darmproblemen veroorzaken en is schadelijk voor het gebit.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Ook vitaminen hebben geen enkele functie in een dorstlesser want een vitaminetekort ontstaat niet binnen een tijdspanne van enkele uren. Bovendien verhogen vitamines de osmolariteit van een dorstlesser en hebben dus een negatieve invloed op de maaglediging.<\/p>\n
