Adaptogenen, anti-stressmiddelen of tonica.<\/p>\n

De term adaptogeen slaat op het vermogen van het lichaam om weerstand te bieden aan stresssituaties en te herstellen van innerlijke onrust of zware fysieke inspanning.<\/p>\n

Een adaptogeen moet aan drie voorwaarden voldoen:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Ze moeten een aspecifieke weerstand induceren tegen zowel fysieke, chemische als biologische stressoren.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Ze moeten een normaliserende werking hebben en de homeostase bevorderen.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Ze moeten veilig(niet toxisch) zijn en de normale lichaamsfuncties zo weinig mogelijk be\u00efnvloeden.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Uit klinisch onderzoek wordt alsmaar duidelijker dat hun werking gebaseerd is op het \u201cmoduleren\u201d van de as hypothalamus \u2013 hypofyse \u2013 bijnieren, een systeem dat ontregeld raakt bij aanhoudende fysieke of mentale stresssituaties.Hierbij komen de bijnieren onder zware druk te staan en zoals we weten staan zij in voor de productie van corticostero\u00efden zoals DHEA en testosteron. Verder blijkt ook dat adaptogenen hexokinase activeren. Hexokinase is het enzym dat glucose fosforyleert in glucose – 6 – fosfaat. Deze reactie is de eerste stap in de glycolyse, een proces waarbij glucose wordt afgebroken om energie vrij te maken.<\/p>\n

    Enkele belangrijke adaptogenen:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Lepidium meyenii of Maca: Maca staat bekend om zijn vitaliserende eigenschappen . Maca bevat ook een hoog gehalte aan sterolen(0,05% tot 0,1%) en wordt daarom ook ingenomen door krachtsporters, als alternatief voor anabole stero\u00efden.<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Rhodiola rosea: Rhodiola rosea is \u00e9\u00e9n van de belangrijkste en meest bestudeerde \u201cadaptogene\u201d planten. Het gedroogde extract van de wortel bevat polyfenolen, waarvan rosavine en salidroside de belangrijkste, werkzame, stoffen zijn. In een recente, dubbelblinde \u2013 gerandomiseerde en placebo-gecontroleerde studie, uitgevoerd in het \u201clabo voor inspanningsfysiologie en biomechanica\u201d van de Katholieke Universiteit in Leuven, concludeerden de onderzoekers het volgende: Accute inname van Rhodiola rosea verbeterde de uithoudingscapaciteit ( = tijd tot uitputting) en de VO2max bij gezonde vrijwilligers. Recentelijk werd Rhodiola rosea vervangen door Astragalus Dry Extract.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Fosfatidylserine(90%)<\/p>\n

      Na een intensieve trainingsperiode hebben de meeste sporters verlaagde testosteron- en verhoogde cortisol spiegels, wat tot spierafbraak en eventueel tot overtraining kan leiden. Ook de verhoogde ACTH (adrenocorticotroop hormoon) concentratie na training of wedstrijd leidt tot hogere cortisol spiegels en een verstoorde cortisol\/testosteron ratio. Verschillende studies tonen aan dat suppletie van fosfatidylserine voor de training of wedstrijd zowel de ACTH als cortisol concentraties verlagen.Een onderzoek gedaan in de afdeling Sportwetenschappen van de Universiteit van Wales toont aan dat bij wielrenners fosfatidylserine een ergogeen (= prestatieverbeterend) effect kan hebben.<\/p>\n
