BLOEDARMOEDE
\nBloedarmoede wordt veroorzaakt door een te laag hemoglobine gehalte, een tekort aan circulerende rode bloedcellen of beide. Een tekort aan hemoglobine kan veroorzaakt worden door een gebrek aan ijzer in de voeding. Een tekort aan circulerende rode bloedcellen kan veroorzaakt worden door voortdurende kleine bloedingen door verwondingen, kneuzingen en meer bloedverlies in het spijsverteringskanaal. Ook de verhoogde stroomsnelheid van het bloed bij sporters kan de rode bloedcellen sneller vernietigen. Tot slot kan er hemolyse optreden door lipidperoxidatie in de celwand van de rode bloedcellen door vrije radicalen.
